What is the Congregate meal program and who is eligible for it?
The Congregate meal Program was Authorized by the Older American Act of 1965. It provides for the preparation and service of at least one nutritional balanced hot meal ot other appropriate meal in a congregate or group setting. These meals are provided for all "Older Americans" 60 years of age or older and their spouses, and handicapped adults.
What is the Home Delivered Meal Program and who is eligible for it?
Home-Delivered meals are also provided for by the Older Americans Act of 1965. The same meal served in the Senior Center is delivered to the homesof those senior citizens and hanicapped adults who are "homebound" by reason of illness, incapacitating disablilty or otherwise isolated.
What does it cost for one of these meals?
There is no charge for meals provided to Older Americans Age 60 years or older and their spouses, or to handicapped adults. Contributions are requested but not mandatory. There is no means test and no one will be refused a meal for lack of contribution. Those under 60 years of age are required to pay the full cost of meal as determined by the Area Agency on Aging (AAA).
When is the multi purpose Senior Center open and serving and where is it located?
The Senior Center is open five day a week: Monday through Friday. Meals are served daily from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The Senior Center is available for other activities such as socialization, card playing, musical entertainment, bingo, etc. when meals are not being served. The Senior Center is located at 112 E. Marion, Paris, MO 65275. The phone number is (660)-327-5824.
Why is the nutrition program necessary and how do I become a participant in the home-delivered program?
The nurtrition program provides a nutritionally balanced meal to all older Americans in an effort to help with their dietary needs. Other services related to a nutrition center that are available include: recreation, transportation, escort services, nutrition education,shopping assistance, counseling, and information and referral to outside agencies. The program is NOT operated under income eligibility guidelines and, therefore, attempts to serve ALL older Americans. You can contact the Senior Citizens Community Center to provide on information on need, address, etc. Staff will visit you, complete an assessment form, and establish your delivery schedule. Home-delivered meals may be provided on a short-term or long-term basis as needed.
